Our Story
A quarter-century of learning, leading and serving
Founded in 2001, Gulf University set out to build a culture grounded in the quality of education and to prepare lifelong learners. The University was established under Cabinet Decree No. 1649-03, issued on 2 September 2001, and its official registration with the Ministry of Education for its scheduled academic programs took effect on 21 September 2002.
Twenty-five years on, the University stands as a home for students, faculty and partners from across the Kingdom and beyond. The Silver Jubilee is a bridge between that proud legacy and our aspirations for the next chapter.

Official Ceremony
Attended by prominent figures and officials from across the Kingdom, members of the Board of Trustees and University Council, academics and strategic partners.
Community Celebration
A more informal celebration dedicated to students, academic staff and administrative personnel, celebrating the sense of belonging at the heart of Gulf University.

Milestones along the way
- 2001
Gulf University is founded
Established under Cabinet Decree No. 1649-03, issued on 2 September 2001, as the first licensed private university in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
- 2002
Official registration
Registration with the Ministry of Education for the University’s scheduled academic programs takes effect on 21 September 2002.
- 2003
College of Engineering
Gulf University becomes the first private university in Bahrain to offer engineering programs.

The College of Law is established, alongside the Department of Architectural and Interior Design Engineering.

A culture of quality and research
The Quality Assurance Center is established, and the University begins organizing its annual scientific conferences.
- 2009
Mass Communication and Public Relations
The Mass Communication and Public Relations Department welcomes its first students in Fall 2009.
- 2018
Serving the community
The Media Production Center and the Community Engagement and Continuing Education Center are founded.
- 2021
A British degree in Bahrain
Programs hosted with the University of Northampton, UK, launch from the 2021–2022 academic year, starting with Mechanical and Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
- 2022
A new chapter for Law
The College of Law is inaugurated at the Sanad campus, and the University adopts its Strategic Plan 2022–2027.

International recognition
Institutional accreditation from the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), UK, a “Compliant” judgment in the BQA Institutional Review, and the “Most Recommended University” award at the THE Arab World Awards.

Accreditation renewed for five years
The Higher Education Council renews the University’s institutional accreditation, four programs receive five-year programmatic accreditation, and the first cohort of hosted Northampton programs graduates.

Silver Jubilee
The Silver Jubilee emblem is launched, admission opens to the University’s first Ph.D. programs, and Gulf University celebrates 25 years on 15 October.
